In a refugee camp, where people are not allowed to work for a disposable income, and cannot leave the camps without a permit, clothing a family is difficult. Therefore there is great demand for donations of used clothes, such as the Wakichiai donation.
To ensure that the clothes are equitably distributed among all the families in the camps, the UNHCR camp registration cards, which entitle families to food rations, are used. This shows how large a person’s family is, which is used as an indicator for how many clothes they are entitled to have.
Here, TCRS staff check the ration cards against their distribution lists so they know how many items of clothes that refugee can collect.
Refugee Programme. This amounted to a total of over 80,000 pieces of clothing, enabling each refugee family in the Kibondo district to receive several pieces of clothing. Distributions were carried out as indicated below.
